Sports betting sign-up bonus or games bonus?
Decide what you want to bet on before you register, because many offers split. PlayBet's terms say its first deposit match is divided between a sports wallet and a games wallet. Topbet gives Welcome Bonus: R30 sports/horses & R15 Casino for new sign-ups. Bettabets lets new customers use the welcome bonus on Lucky Numbers or sports.

The R50 free bet and other small sign-up offers
Small fixed offers are popular because they ask for little up front. Gbets lists 50 free spins and an R50 free bet for new customers, and Betshezi adds an R50 bonus sports bet once FICA verification is complete. These are not cash: a free bet usually pays out only the winnings, not the stake, and it can carry its own odds and expiry rules. How to read welcome bonus terms
The rules differ a lot between operators. Three published examples show the range:
- Scorebet says sports rewards must be rolled over 5 times at odds of 1.75 or greater, games rewards 10 times, and the bonus must be used within 72 hours.
- Bettabets asks you to register and deposit within 7 days to claim, with minimum odds of 1.01 on Lucky Numbers and 1.7 on sports.
- LottoStar explains a 30x playthrough on its Habanero deposit bonus.
Rollover is the key number. A 5x rollover on R500 of bonus funds means placing R2,500 in qualifying bets before you can withdraw. Add a minimum odds rule and a short expiry, and the offer is harder to clear than its headline suggests. Before you opt in, check:
- The rollover multiple and whether it applies to the bonus alone or bonus plus deposit.
- The minimum odds per selection or per bet slip.
- How long you have to meet the terms.
- Which markets and games count, and at what rate.
- The maximum you can win or withdraw from bonus funds.

Betting apps with welcome bonus offers
A welcome bonus usually belongs to the account, not to the device. Registering through a bookmaker's app or its mobile site generally gives the same offer, as long as you opt in where the terms ask you to. Two cautions apply. Download apps only from the bookmaker's own site or an official app store, never from a link in a message or social media post. Licence first, bonus second
Gambling sites with welcome bonus offers are easy to find, and many of them are not licensed in South Africa. A large offer from an unlicensed site comes with no regulator to complain to if winnings are withheld. Before comparing amounts, confirm the provincial board, licence number and company name in the footer, and check them against the National Gambling Board's verified operators list.
Is a free welcome bonus with no deposit required really free?
No bonus comes without strings. The National Gambling Act prohibits offering gambling as free as an inducement, which is why every offer carries conditions. Treat a bonus as extra play under rules, not as income, and walk away from it if the terms push you to bet more than you planned. If you have self-excluded, you are not eligible for promotions, and a bookmaker should not offer you one.
