This Supabets review starts with the answer most people want: Supabets is a licensed South African bookmaker. Its footer says it is regulated by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator under licence number 9-2-1-00055, the company behind it is Portapa 2 (Pty) Ltd, and the National Gambling Board register lists "Supabets - Mpumalanga" with the same licence number. It offers live sports betting, horse racing, Supanumbers lucky numbers and a large games suite. Where it falls short is detail: the welcome offer and payment options are described only in general terms on its main pages.

Is Supabets legit? Licence and company

Online sports betting is legal in South Africa only with a provincially licensed bookmaker. Supabets' licence notice gives the three things a punter should look for: the regulator, the licence number and the operating company. Its footer reads, in part, that Supabets is regulated by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, supports responsible gambling and shows the National Responsible Gambling Programme line, with licence no. 9-2-1-00055.

Supabets is not part of Hollywoodbets, despite searches that pair the two names. The register lists them under different companies and licences; see our Hollywoodbets review for that operator.

Supabets review of the sports offer

Supabets describes streamlined menus for in-play markets, watching how odds shift and managing multiple bets. The sports it names include soccer, cricket and tennis, and horse racing comes with racing specials. That covers what most South African punters bet on, from the Betway Premiership to international cricket. For the basics of soccer bet types, see our how to bet on soccer guide, and to compare live markets across bookmakers, our live betting sites page.

Supabets' own wording stresses monitoring how odds shift in play. That is useful, but moving prices also tempt punters to chase. Decide your stake before a match starts, keep multi bets short, and check the potential return against the risk with our odds calculator before you add another leg.

Supabets mobile betting

Many people bet with Supabets on their phones, and "Supabets mobile" is one of the brand's most searched phrases. The site shows a Download App link, and one Supabets account is used however you log in. Always reach the app through supabets.co.za itself rather than a forwarded link; lookalike sites copy popular brands. The Supabets app page explains the download and installation.

Supanumbers

Supanumbers is Supabets' lucky numbers product. Lucky numbers are bookmaker fixed-odds bets on the outcome of a lottery-style draw, not lottery tickets. The Lotteries Act makes betting on the outcome of any lottery an offence unless another law authorises it, and whether provincial bookmaker approvals cover these bets is unresolved. We describe the product but do not recommend it.

Supabets gaming: slots, Aviator and Play Vegas

Supabets says it offers "SA's leading slots, aviator, table games and a wide Play Vegas suite", together with live tables, game shows, poker and virtuals. The lobby is covered in detail on our Supabets games page.

There is a legal twist here. The October 2025 Supreme Court of Appeal judgment on casino games at bookmakers, [2025] ZASCA 158, is cited as Portapa (Supabets) v Casino Association of SA. The court held that in Gauteng, bookmakers may not offer fixed-odds bets on roulette outcomes unless they hold a casino licence. The National Gambling Board reads the ruling as applying nationwide; the Western Cape board says it does not affect its licensees, and the bookmakers' association says it is not a ban outside Gauteng. Supabets is licensed in Mpumalanga, and the Mpumalanga regulator has not set out its position on the ruling in writing. The status of slot-style games at bookmakers is therefore contested and depends on the province.

Welcome offer and payments

On its main page, Supabets says new customers "may be able to double your first deposit as part of selected welcome offers". There are no wagering rules beside that sentence, so read the full terms on the Supabets promo code page and in the operator's terms before opting in. Look for the rollover multiple, minimum odds and expiry.

Payment methods are not listed on Supabets' main pages. Check the cashier after logging in for deposit and withdrawal options, minimums and processing times. Our payments guide explains how EFT, Ozow and vouchers differ.

Opening a Supabets account and FICA

Supabets publishes a "How To Fica" guide. As with every licensed bookmaker, expect to provide an ID document, proof of address and proof of bank account before withdrawals. The Supabets registration page sets out the steps. Upload documents soon after signing up so that your first withdrawal is not held back.

Supabets among other Mpumalanga-licensed bookmakers

Supabets is one of several bookmakers licensed by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator. Others reviewed on this site include Betfred, Bettabets, LottoStar, PlayBet and SunBet, which also holds a North West licence. Compared with the operators that publish full bonus tables and payment lists, Supabets leaves more to the cashier and the fine print. Its strengths are breadth, with sport, racing, lucky numbers and games under one account, and a clear licence notice.

Who Supabets suits

Supabets fits punters who want one account for soccer, cricket, racing and quick games, and who are comfortable checking the cashier and terms themselves before depositing. It is a weaker fit for anyone who chooses a bookmaker on bonus value, because the welcome offer is not spelled out on the main pages, or for anyone who needs a particular payment method confirmed in advance.

Winnings and tax

Direct SARS guidance on betting winnings is thin. Tax advisers generally treat an occasional punter's winnings as windfalls rather than income, while someone who bets for a living may be taxed. The 15% tax on large wins proposed in 2011 was never introduced, and the proposed 20% national online gambling tax would fall on operators. If your betting is large or frequent, ask a tax practitioner; our betting tax guide has more.

Support and responsible gambling

Supabets lists live chat, email and a call-back option for support. Its responsible gambling message is direct: set limits, self-exclude, or contact support. The footer shows the National Responsible Gambling Programme toll-free counselling line, 0800 006 008, and WhatsApp HELP to 076 675 0710, with the slogan "Winners know when to stop". You must be 18 or older to gamble; our responsible gambling page explains how to use limits and self-exclusion.
