No Deposit Bonus in South Africa: Sign-Up Offers at Licensed Bookmakers

Which licensed South African bookmakers give a small bonus on registration without a deposit, what the conditions look like and what to avoid.

A no deposit bonus is a small credit, bonus bet or batch of spins that a bookmaker gives you for opening and verifying an account, before you put any money in. In South Africa, only a handful of provincially licensed bookmakers publish this kind of sign-up offer, and the amounts are modest; the conditions attached matter far more than the headline. This page lists the licensed operators whose current promotions include a registration bonus and explains how these offers actually work.

Where to find a no deposit bonus at licensed betting sites

Each of the four operators above describes a registration offer on its own promotions or FAQ pages. They differ in form:

  • Betshezi adds a bonus sports bet once your account is FICA-verified, on top of a separate match bonus for deposits. Its promotions page says the sign-up bet carries a turnover requirement at minimum odds and must be used within seven days.
  • Gbets advertises free spins and a free bet for new customers. The detailed terms for that offer are not set out alongside the promotion, so read the general bonus rules before you rely on it.
  • PlayBet says new customers get spins credited automatically on registration, for selected Pragmatic Play slots. According to its FAQ, the spins expire after 24 hours and winnings from them are capped.
  • Topbet promotes a welcome bonus on sign-up that is split between a sports and horse racing portion and a smaller portion for its games section: Welcome Bonus: R30 sports/horses & R15 Casino for new sign-ups

Promotions change often, sometimes weekly. Treat the list as a starting point and check the current terms on the operator's site before you register.

Free spins on registration: how the spins work

Spins given at sign-up are tied to specific games chosen by the bookmaker, not to any slot you like. PlayBet's FAQ, for instance, names the Pragmatic titles its spins can be used on. Each spin has a fixed stake set by the operator, and anything you win usually lands as bonus funds that must be wagered before it becomes withdrawable.

Keep two things in mind. First, the expiry clock starts at registration, so spins left unused simply disappear. Second, slot-style games at bookmakers are offered under provincial licences but their legal status is disputed nationally after a 2025 Supreme Court of Appeal ruling, so availability can depend on the province that licensed the operator. Our free spins guide covers spin offers that do need a deposit.

Free bets on sign-up for sports bettors

For football and racing fans, a no deposit sign-up bonus usually takes the form of a bonus bet. You place it like a normal bet, but with most bonus bets the stake is not returned on a win; you receive only the profit, and that profit may itself carry a rollover requirement. Betshezi's sign-up bet, for example, requires five times turnover at minimum odds of 1.5 according to its promotions page. Read our free bets guide for a fuller walk-through of how bonus bets settle.

The conditions that decide whether a sign-up bonus is worth anything

ConditionWhat it meansWhat to look for
FICA firstMany offers credit only after your ID and address are verifiedUpload documents straight away so the clock is not running
Turnover or rolloverWinnings must be bet a set number of times before withdrawalLower multiples are easier to clear
Minimum oddsOnly bets at or above a set price count towards turnoverVery high minimum odds make clearing harder
ExpiryUnused or unwagered bonus value is removed after a deadlineShort windows of one to three days are common
Winnings capA maximum amount you can withdraw from bonus playCheck it before you spend time clearing the bonus

Why casino no deposit bonuses are not listed here

Search results for a no deposit casino bonus are full of offshore sites. Casino-style websites are not licensed in South Africa: the National Gambling Act prohibits interactive games without a licence under that Act, and no such licence has ever been issued. Offering or advertising them here is unlawful, and the National Gambling Board has said winnings from illegal interactive gambling can be confiscated. A bonus from an unlicensed site also leaves you with no regulator to complain to if the money is withheld.

That is why this page covers only bookmakers licensed by a provincial board, and why any spins mentioned are on games inside a licensed bookmaker's own lobby.

Sign-up bonus without a deposit versus a welcome match

A no deposit welcome bonus is small but costs you nothing up front. A deposit match is larger but only pays out in proportion to what you deposit, and its turnover applies to a bigger sum. Neither is extra money in your pocket. If you were going to open an account anyway, a registration offer is a pleasant extra; if the bonus is the only reason, skip it. Our welcome bonus comparison covers the deposit side.

Bonuses are for adults only: you must be 18 or older, and self-excluded players are not eligible for promotions. Set a limit before you start, and see our responsible gambling page for the free National Responsible Gambling Programme line, 0800 006 008.

Questions and answers

Which betting sites give a no deposit bonus in South Africa?

Among licensed bookmakers, Betshezi, Gbets, PlayBet and Topbet currently describe a registration offer on their own pages, ranging from a bonus bet after FICA to spins credited on sign-up. Offers change often, so check the operator's promotions page before registering.

Can I win real money with free spins and no deposit?

Winnings from sign-up spins usually arrive as bonus funds with a rollover requirement and often a cap on what you can withdraw. Real money is possible only once those conditions are met, and most players do not clear them.

Do I need to complete FICA to get a sign-up bonus?

Often yes. Betshezi, for example, credits its sign-up bet only once the account is FICA-verified. Licensed bookmakers must verify your identity before withdrawals in any case.

Why can't I find a no deposit casino bonus from a licensed site?

Because casino websites are not licensed in South Africa. Spins offered by licensed bookmakers apply to slot-style games in their own lobbies, and the status of those games is disputed nationally and varies by province.

Is a no deposit bonus better than a deposit bonus?

It is smaller but carries no upfront cost. A deposit match can be worth more on paper but comes with turnover on a larger amount. Compare the full terms rather than the headline figure.
