A provincially licensed SA bookmaker with a long list of local payment methods and a welcome bonus spread over four deposits, but tight turnover deadlines.

Betshezi is a South African bookmaker run by SMP Gaming (Pty) Ltd and licensed by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, with a second licence from the Eastern Cape Gambling Board. It covers the PSL, the Premier League, rugby, cricket, horse racing and lucky numbers, plus a slots section called Spina Shezi. The strongest points in its published terms are the range of local payment methods and the responsible gambling tools; the weakest is a welcome bonus with a short three-day wagering window.

Is Betshezi legit?

Yes, on the evidence of its licence notices. The footer states that SMP Gaming (Pty) Ltd, registration 2021/964248/07, is licensed and regulated by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, and gives the Western Cape licence as Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, Bookmaker Licence 10191121-005, issued 1 August 2026. It also names an Eastern Cape Gambling Board bookmaker licence, ECBM 033, issued on 4 June 2025.

One detail to know: the National Gambling Board's Verified Operators register, as of 1 November 2026, lists SMP Gaming (Pty) Ltd t/a Betshezi with licence number 10191121-004, while the footer shows 10191121-005. The two documents do not match, so it is worth asking support which number is current. You can compare them yourself on the NGB register, as our guide to licensed betting sites explains.

Betshezi sports betting and horse racing

The home page invites you to bet on the PSL, the Premier League, rugby and cricket, and adds tennis, basketball and e-sports such as CS2, Dota 2 and League of Legends. Live in-play betting is part of the offer. Horse racing sits alongside sport rather than in a separate brand, which suits punters who follow both. Lucky Numbers Betting appears in the main menu as well.

Betshezi games: Spina Shezi, Aviator and live tables

The slots lobby carries titles from Habanero, Pragmatic Play and PopOK Gaming, with Red Tiger, EGT and BetSoft also listed, all priced in rand. Aviator and other crash games sit next to live dealer blackjack, roulette and game shows. Casino-style games at bookmakers are legally contested in South Africa: the Western Cape board permits them for its licensees, the National Gambling Board disputes this. Our slot reviews cover many of the games by provider.

Welcome bonus and free bet

According to the home page, new players can claim Up to R10,000 in match bonuses over first four deposits, plus R50 bonus sports bet after FICA verification. The R50 bonus sports bet is credited only once the account is FICA-verified.

The promotions terms set the rules:

  • match bonuses carry 20x turnover, bonus spins 5x;
  • wagering must be completed within 3 days, or 7 days for the sign-up bet;
  • the sign-up bet has 5x turnover at minimum odds of 1.5;
  • the qualifying deposit for the match bonuses is R100 (single deposit) for qualifying welcome bonus deposits.

Twenty times the bonus in three days is a lot of betting in a short time. If that is more than you would normally stake, it is reasonable to skip the bonus. Our bonus guides compare offers across licensed brands.

Betshezi deposit and withdrawal methods

The payment list is one of the longest among local bookmakers: Capitec Pay, Ozow, PayShap, bank EFT and cards, plus vouchers including OTT, Blu Voucher, 1Voucher, EasyPay and Kazang. Voucher deposits suit players without a bank card, and 1Voucher is sold widely in shops and banking apps.

The public terms do not state withdrawal times. Expect withdrawals to require a verified account and to go back to a bank account in your name; check the cashier for the current methods and any limits.

FICA and registration

As a licensed bookmaker, Betshezi must verify your identity under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act. In practice that means your SA ID or passport and proof of address, and possibly proof of a bank account. The R50 bonus bet is only released after verification, so finishing FICA early has a practical benefit too.

Contact and support

Support is listed as email at [email protected] and a live chat link on the contact page. The responsible gaming page points to the national helpline and a WhatsApp line. Betshezi presents itself as an online bookmaker; its public pages do not set out a list of retail branches. For app details, see the Betshezi app page.

Responsible gambling tools

The responsible gaming page offers deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and lists the National Responsible Gambling Programme on 0800 006 008 and WhatsApp HELP to 076 675 0710. Betshezi states that no persons under the age of 18 are permitted to gamble. For more on limits and exclusion, see our responsible gambling page.
