Gbets is a licensed South African bookmaker, and this Gbets review finds it a legitimate choice for sports betting: its footer names the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board and licence number 10179096-014, and the National Gambling Board's Verified Operators list carries a Gbets bookmaker licence in the Free State. The offer covers football, rugby, cricket, tennis and basketball with live betting, plus horse racing and a large games lobby. The main gap is in the bonus small print, which is published only in outline.

Everything below comes from Gbets' own published pages: the footer licence notice, promotions page, FAQ and responsible gaming page. You must be 18 or older to open a Gbets account.

Is Gbets legit? Licence and company

The licence notice in the Gbets footer is one of the most complete among SA bookmakers. It names the board, the licence number, the operating company and its registration number, the National Responsible Gambling Programme line with WhatsApp help, the 18+ rule and the slogan "Winners know when to stop".

Two company names appear: Dymanex in the footer and a numbered company in the Free State register entry. That points to separate licensed entities for different provinces rather than a problem, but it is worth knowing if you ever need to lodge a complaint: name the company and province that hold your account.

Searches for "Hollywood Gbets" mix up two brands. Gbets and Hollywoodbets are separate bookmakers with separate licences; see the Hollywoodbets review for that operator. Likewise, Gbets sites for other countries, such as Lesotho, are outside this review, which covers the South African site only.

Gbets sports betting

The sportsbook covers the markets most South Africans bet on: football, rugby, cricket, tennis and basketball. The homepage describes these features:

  • Live betting on matches in progress.
  • Bet Builder, which combines several markets from one match into a single bet.
  • Cash out to settle a bet early at the offered value.
  • Multi-bet boosts that add a percentage to winning multiples.

Bet Builder combinations are convenient, but every extra leg adds to the bookmaker's margin, so the combined price is rarely as generous as it looks. Our odds guide explains how to compare prices.

Book a bet and bet slips

Gbets book a bet is a common search. At SA bookmakers, a booking code saves a bet slip so it can be shared, or loaded at a counter and paid in cash. Check the Gbets help centre for how booking codes work on its site and in any retail outlet before relying on one. Our guide to bet slips explains what to check on any slip.

Horse racing

Gbets publishes racing and betting rules and refers to totalisator operations, so racing is offered alongside sport. Read the racing rules for dead heats, non-runners and tote dividends before betting.

Gbets games: slots, crash games and BetGames TV

Beyond sport, the Gbets lobby lists slots, live games, crash games and BetGames TV. Providers named on the site include Pragmatic Play, Spribe (maker of Aviator), EGT Digital, NetGaming, Spinomenal, Booming Games, FunkyGames, SmarTSoft, Popok Gaming, Kiss Gaming, Pascal Gaming and Aardvark. The crash games section alone lists 22 titles. The legal status of these slot-style games at bookmakers is disputed: the Western Cape board permits them for its licensees, while the National Gambling Board disputes this. Details are on the Gbets betting games page.

Gbets also offers lucky numbers markets. These are bookmaker bets on foreign lottery draws, whose legal position under the Lotteries Act is unsettled, so SlotsReviews covers the results but makes no recommendation on them.

Gbets bonus for new customers

The current welcome offer on the promotions page is 50 Free Spins and a R50 Free Bet for new customers. The offer is advertised clearly, but the detailed terms, such as turnover on spin winnings, minimum odds for the free bet and expiry, are not set out alongside it. Ask support or read the general terms before depositing. Searches for a "Gbets free R100" refer to older or third-party offers; the current offer is the one shown on Gbets' own promotions page. See Gbets promo code and bonus and the wider betting bonuses comparison.

Deposits and withdrawals at Gbets

The Gbets FAQ lists these deposit methods:

  • EFT
  • Credit card
  • 1Voucher
  • OTT Voucher

A Gbets voucher deposit works like at other bookmakers: you buy a 1Voucher or OTT voucher at a shop or in a banking app and enter the PIN in your account. Instant EFT services such as Ozow are not among the listed methods. Gbets does not publish a standard withdrawal time next to its payment methods, so check the FAQ for processing times and limits before you request a payout. Withdrawals at any licensed bookmaker require a FICA-verified account, and the money usually goes back to a bank account in your own name.

Gbets online and mobile

Gbets online betting runs in the browser, and the mobile site (often searched as m Gbets) gives the same sportsbook on a phone. Gbets' public pages do not describe a data-free version, so assume normal data charges apply. App availability is covered on the Gbets app page.

Opening a Gbets account

Registration at a licensed bookmaker follows the same legal steps everywhere, because bookmakers are accountable institutions under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act. Expect to:

  1. Enter your name, South African ID or passport number, mobile number and email.
  2. Confirm that you are 18 or older; the law requires bookmakers to take reasonable steps to check this.
  3. Upload FICA documents, typically an ID document and a recent proof of address, when asked.
  4. Set a deposit limit before your first deposit if you want one; it is easier to do this at the start than after a losing week.

Accounts that are not verified can usually deposit and sometimes bet, but withdrawals are held until FICA is complete. One account per person is the rule, and a second account opened to claim another welcome bonus can be closed. The Gbets registration and FICA page goes through the process in more detail.

Who Gbets suits

Gbets suits bettors who want a wide sportsbook with live markets, horse racing and voucher deposits from a brand that shows its licence details plainly. It suits less well those who want every bonus condition in writing before they register, or who prefer instant EFT apps over EFT, card and voucher deposits.

Responsible gambling and Gbets contact options

Gbets presents itself as a supporter of the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation and its National Responsible Gambling Programme. The responsible gaming page describes self-exclusion and time-out options. Support is available through live chat, which the site says runs 24/7, as well as email and phone. The NRGP counselling line is 0800 006 008, or WhatsApp HELP to 076 675 0710. More on our responsible gambling page.

How Gbets compares

Gbets scores well on licence transparency, sport coverage and local payment methods, and it loses ground on bonus terms that are not published in full. If you want Ozow or Capitec Pay deposits, or detailed bonus rules before you sign up, compare it with other operators on our betting sites ranking.
