Spaceman by Pragmatic Play: crash game review
How Pragmatic Play's Spaceman crash game works, what the half cash-out does, and where the game appears at licensed South African bookmakers.
The legal status of casino-style games offered by bookmakers is disputed in South Africa and depends on the province that licenses the bookmaker.
Spaceman is a crash game from Pragmatic Play: an astronaut launches, a multiplier climbs while he flies, and you must cash out before he disappears, or the stake is lost. Released in March 2022, the Spaceman game has a listed RTP of 96.50% and a maximum win of 5,000x your stake, according to the provider's figures shown in the spec card. Its twist is a 50% cash-out that lets you bank half a bet and let the other half ride.
How a Spaceman round works
- Place your bet during the countdown before launch.
- Watch the multiplier rise from 1x as the astronaut flies.
- Cash out in full to lock in your stake times the current multiplier, or
- Cash out half, banking 50% of the bet at the current multiplier and leaving the rest in flight.
- The round ends when the astronaut flies off. Anything not cashed out is lost.
Spaceman has no reels or paylines, which is why the spec card shows them as not applicable. Rounds are short, and that speed is something to keep an eye on: it is easy to play many more rounds than you intended.
The half cash-out and other Spaceman features
The 50% cash-out is what separates Spaceman from many other crash games. It does not change the maths of the game; it simply splits one bet into two exits. Banking half early reduces how much you can lose on a round, while the remaining half keeps the chance of a larger multiplier.
Pragmatic Play also lists live chat, leaderboards and bet history, and describes the game as provably fair: each round's result comes from a process that can be checked after the round. Compare it with other titles in our crash games guide, including Aviator, which works on the same principle.
Is there a Spaceman strategy?
Searches for a Spaceman strategy usually lead to cash-out systems: always exit at a low multiplier, double after a loss, or use the half cash-out at a fixed point. None of them changes the RTP. A 96.50% return is a long-run average across a huge number of rounds; in any session you can lose everything you stake. Doubling after losses is especially dangerous, because a short losing run makes the stakes grow very quickly. The only control that works is deciding your budget and your exit point before you start.
Spaceman demo
Pragmatic Play shows a demo of its games on its own website, and some licensed bookmakers offer a demo mode in their lobby. A demo uses play credits only, so it is the right way to learn how the half cash-out feels before deciding whether to stake real money. This site does not host a demo.
Where Spaceman appears in South Africa
Several licensed bookmakers name Pragmatic Play among the providers in their published game lobbies, including Betshezi, Scorebet, Sportingbet, World Sports Betting, Gbets, PlayBet, Topbet and YesPlay. Lobbies change, so whether Spaceman itself is listed at a given bookmaker is shown in that bookmaker's game section. More Pragmatic titles are in our Pragmatic Play slots overview.
The legal status of casino-style games at bookmakers is disputed in South Africa and depends on the province: the Supreme Court of Appeal barred Gauteng bookmakers from casino-game bets in 2025, while the Western Cape board says its licensees are unaffected. Crash games are for adults aged 18 and over only. If rounds start to blur together, stop and see our responsible gambling page.
