Scorebet app download: installing the ScoreBet Android app

The Score Bet app is an Android app that ScoreBet offers as a direct download from the app page on its own website, scorebet.co.za, under the heading "Download ScoreBet Android App". It is an APK file rather than a Google Play listing, so the install takes a couple of extra taps. The ScoreBet app page does not describe an iPhone version; iPhone users use the mobile site. Below is the install process, what to check first and what the app is useful for.

Scorebet app download: step by step

1. Open scorebet.co.za in your phone's browser by typing the address. Avoid download links from adverts, WhatsApp forwards or APK mirror sites.
2. Check the footer. It names Deeps Betting Grounds PTY LTD t/a ScoreBet (2013/122709/07). The National Gambling Board's register lists the brand's licence holder as Scorebet Durban (Pty) Ltd, bookmaker licence BOM0120, KwaZulu-Natal.
3. Go to the app page and tap the Android download.
4. Allow the install. Android asks for permission to install an app from your browser. Allow it for this file only, then switch the permission off again in your settings.
5. Open the app and log in with your existing ScoreBet details, or register if you are new. The app uses the same account and balance as the website.

The app costs nothing to download. If a site asks for payment, your password or your ID before you reach ScoreBet's own login screen, it is not genuine.

Using the score bet app for live betting

Live betting is where an app earns its place. ScoreBet's home page says you can "place your bets before kick-off or jump in live in-play, cashing out when it suits you", and its sports list covers soccer, rugby, cricket, tennis, golf, motorsport and MMA, plus horse racing. On a phone, in-play odds change while you watch, so keep an eye on the bet confirmation: if the price moves, the bet may be rejected or re-offered. Our guide to live betting sites explains how in-play markets and cash out work.

Deposits and withdrawals on mobile

ScoreBet's help page lists card payments, EFT, vouchers and mobile money, with Ozow instant EFT among the options and retail vouchers sold at outlets such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay and Makro. The same methods apply in the app. On withdrawals, the help page says a bank EFT payout can take up to 2 to 3 business days to arrive. FICA documents, including ID, proof of address and proof of banking details, may be requested during registration and before payouts.

Games in the app

ScoreBet's lobby includes slots, table games, live game shows such as Crazy Time and Monopoly Live, and the crash game Aviator. Casino-style games at bookmakers are legally disputed in South Africa and depend on the province, so treat that part of the app with care, and remember that game rounds are far quicker than a football match.

Limits worth setting on your phone

A betting app puts deposits one tap away. ScoreBet's responsible gambling page offers daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits, wagering limits, cooling-off or time-out periods, and permanent self-exclusion. Set a deposit limit before your first mobile deposit, use a screen lock, and log out when others use your phone. Betting is for adults only: ScoreBet's terms require customers to be at least 18. Our responsible gambling guide explains where to get confidential help.
