TAB registration: signing up for a tote betting account
How TAB sign up works, why verification comes before the account is opened, and the documents the published FICA policy asks for.
TAB registration differs from many betting sites in one important way: under the published Gold Circle TOTE FICA policy, no account is created until your identity is conclusively verified. So the TAB sign up is really a two-part job, filling in your details and sending the documents, and you can bet only once both are accepted. TAB is operated by Race Coast KZN, previously trading as Gold Circle (Pty) Ltd, under licence TOT0002 from the KwaZulu-Natal Economic Regulatory Authority, issued on 31 March 2025.
What TAB asks for when you sign up
The FICA policy published by Gold Circle TOTE lists the information requested from new customers:
- full names;
- South African ID number or passport number;
- email address and mobile number;
- source of funds, meaning where the money you bet with comes from, such as a salary.
The operator has since rebranded as Race Coast KZN, so check the TAB site for the current version of the form.
TAB FICA documents
| Document | Accepted forms named in the policy |
|---|---|
| Identity | ID book, Smart ID card (front and back) or a valid driver's licence |
| Proof of address | Utility bill, bank statement or municipal account, no older than 3 months |
| Proof of bank account | Bank statement no older than 3 months |
Make sure every document is in your name and readable. A cut-off page or an old bill is the usual reason an application waits. TAB lists phone support on +27 31 314 1869 and +27 31 314 1870 for questions about a pending application.
TAB sign up step by step
- Start the application on the official TAB site with your personal details and source of funds.
- Send your documents in the way the site requests.
- Wait for verification. The account is opened only after your identity is confirmed.
- Fund the account. Deposit methods are listed by the operator once you are verified.
- Learn the pools. TAB bets are tote bets: winners share the pool, so dividends are known only after the event.
What you can bet on once registered
TAB focuses on tote betting on horse racing, including local meetings and international races such as UK meetings, with products like quartet pools. It also runs soccer pools, among them Soccer6, Soccer10 and Soccer Any 13Xtra, where you predict a set of match results and share a pool with other winners. Our TAB review explains these products and how the operator scores.
Suspension and self-exclusion
TAB's responsible gambling page offers three levels: a temporary suspension that puts your account on hold for at least 7 days, self-exclusion, and permanent exclusion. Choosing a suspension at sign-up is not unusual for people who know they bet impulsively during big race meetings. No persons under the age of 18 are permitted to gamble, and our responsible gambling page lists confidential help.
