TAB games: tote racing pools and soccer pools explained
What TAB offers instead of slots: tote pools on horse racing and soccer, how pool betting works and who runs TAB.
TAB games are pool bets, not slots: TAB offers tote betting on local and international horse racing, including quartet pools, and soccer pools such as Soccer6, Soccer10 and Soccer Any 13Xtra. If you searched for TAB casino games, slots and crash games are not among the products TAB lists. TAB is run by Race Coast KZN, previously trading as Gold Circle (Pty) Ltd, under licence TOT0002 from the KwaZulu-Natal Economic Regulatory Authority, issued on 31 March 2025.
How tote betting differs from fixed odds
At a fixed-odds bookmaker, your price is locked when you bet. On the tote, every stake on a race goes into a pool. After the operator's deduction, the pool is shared among the winning tickets, so the dividend is only known once betting closes. Popular runners pay less because more money sits on them; a long shot backed by few people can pay well.
| Tote (TAB) | Fixed odds (bookmaker) | |
|---|---|---|
| Price known when you bet | No, the dividend is set by the pool | Yes |
| Who you bet against | Other punters in the pool | The bookmaker |
| Effect of late money | Can change the dividend | Does not change your price |
TAB games on racing: pools and quartets
TAB runs tote pools on South African racing and on international meetings. Its site has listed South African quartet pools with fractional betting on UK meetings such as Southwell and Newmarket. In a quartet you pick the first four finishers in order; fractional betting lets you take part in a big combination for a fraction of the full unit stake, with the dividend scaled down in proportion. Exact pool rules and minimum stakes are in TAB's own racing rules.
Soccer pools: Soccer6, Soccer10 and Soccer Any 13Xtra
TAB's soccer products are pools rather than fixed-odds bets. You predict results across a set list of matches, and winners share the pool. Each of the three pools has its own match list and rules. When no one wins a pool, TAB announces a carryover into the next one, and it publishes estimated pool sizes before each round. Check the current coupon and rules on TAB's site, because fixtures and pool terms change every week.
Why there is no TAB casino section
TAB's published product range centres on the tote: racing and soccer pools. That makes it different from bookmakers with large slot and crash game lobbies, and it also keeps TAB away from the legal dispute over casino-style games at bookmakers. If slots are what you are after, our slot reviews explain the games and the province-by-province legal position. For football bets at fixed odds, see our best betting sites page.
Opening a TAB account
Gold Circle TOTE's published FICA document sets out what to provide: full names, SA ID or passport number, email, mobile and source of funds; an ID, Smart ID card (front and back) or valid driver's licence; proof of address no older than 3 months; and proof of bank account. It states that no account is created until identity is verified. The TAB registration page has more, and the operator overview is in our TAB review.
TAB bets are for adults 18 and older. TAB offers a temporary suspension of at least 7 days, self-exclusion and permanent exclusion; our responsible gambling page explains when each one helps.
