Virtual football betting at licensed SA bookmakers

Computer-generated matches every few minutes: how virtual football leagues work, the markets on offer and where licensed bookmakers list them.

Virtual football is a computer-generated soccer match: software picks the result using a random number generator and plays out short highlights, usually in a few minutes, with a new game starting almost straight away. At South African bookmakers it sits in the games or virtuals section, not with real sport. Of the licensed bookmakers scored on this site, SunBet, Bettabets and Supabets list virtual games in their lobbies.

Licensed bookmakers that list virtual sports

Provincially licensed bookmakers only. Each score comes from our scorecard. How we rate. Licence notices checked 1 November 2026.

18+ only. Betting can lead to losses and addiction, so set a budget before you start. Responsible gambling.

Only bookmakers with a provincial licence and a virtuals section confirmed in their published game lists are included. The scores come from the method on how we rate betting sites, not from the virtuals offer alone.

How virtual football works

A virtual match has no players, pitch or referee. Each team carries a rating, and the software turns those ratings into probabilities for every result. The random number generator then draws the outcome, and the animation you watch is built to match it. Nothing that happens on screen can change what was already decided.

That has three practical effects:

  • No form or injuries. Team news, weather and motivation do not exist. Ratings are the only input.
  • Fixed odds per round. Odds are set before the round and do not move during the match.
  • Speed. A virtual round can finish in a couple of minutes, so there are far more betting events per hour than any real football fixture list.

The virtual football league format

Most suppliers organise matches into a virtual football league with a fixed set of clubs, a season of rounds and a running virtual football league table. Some leagues are styled after real competitions such as an English, Spanish or South African top flight, with fictional or licensed club names. A season might run only an hour or two before resetting. Suppliers such as Kiron Interactive build these products for bookmakers worldwide, and each bookmaker chooses which leagues to list.

Results and the league table update after every round on the bookmaker's virtuals page, which also shows past virtual football live scores. Treat those records as information only: in a random game, the last round says nothing about the next.

Virtual football betting markets

Virtual soccer bets mirror real football markets, though the menu is usually shorter:

MarketWhat you bet on
1X2Home win, draw or away win
Over/under goalsTotal goals above or below a line, such as 2.5
Both teams to scoreWhether each side scores at least once
Virtual correct scoreThe exact final score, with long odds
Double chanceTwo of the three 1X2 outcomes in one bet

The same terms work as in real football, so the guide on how to bet on soccer explains them, and the bet slip guide shows how a selection is recorded.

Other virtual sports and games

Bookmakers that list virtual football often add virtual horse racing, greyhounds and other virtual sports betting, plus number games. Virtual roulette and virtual poker are a different category: they are casino-style games, and casino-style games at bookmakers are legally disputed in South Africa. The Western Cape board says its licensees may offer approved betting games, while the National Gambling Board reads the 2025 Supreme Court of Appeal ruling in the Supabets case as barring casino-game bets at bookmakers nationally. Virtual sports, decided by software rather than a real event, sit close to that line, and the position can depend on the bookmaker's province.

Is there a best way to bet on virtual football?

No method changes the odds of a random draw. The bookmaker sets prices with a built-in margin, so over many rounds the expected return is below what you stake. What you can control is how much you spend and how fast:

  • Set a session budget before you open the virtuals page, and use the deposit limit tool every licensed bookmaker offers.
  • Watch the clock. Rounds every few minutes make it easy to place many more bets than planned.
  • Ignore streaks in results tables. A team that has lost five rounds is no more likely to win the sixth.
  • Read whether a bonus counts virtual bets at all; many sports bonuses exclude them.

Virtual football compared with live football

If you enjoy watching a match while you bet, real live betting on PSL or European football is a different experience: odds move with the play, and knowledge of teams counts for something. Virtual football is closer to a numbers game with a football skin. It also has no off-season, which is part of its appeal and part of its risk.

Not to be confused with football simulators and training

Searches for a virtual football simulator, virtual football coaching or virtual soccer training usually mean video games, fantasy managers or training software for real players. Those are separate products. A bookmaker's virtual football game is a betting event with a random result, and you need to be 18 or older and FICA verified to place a bet on one.

Betting is for adults aged 18 and over. Help with gambling is available on the responsible gambling page.

Questions and answers

Is virtual football fixed?

Results come from a random number generator set up by the supplier, and the animation is built to match the drawn result. Nothing during the match changes it, and past rounds do not predict the next one.

How long is a virtual football match?

Usually a few minutes including highlights, with a new round following shortly after. Exact timings depend on the supplier and the bookmaker.

Can I watch virtual football live?

Yes, each round is shown as an animation on the bookmaker's virtuals page, with results and a league table updated after every round.

Do sports bonuses count on virtual football?

It depends on the bookmaker's terms. Many welcome offers apply only to real sports, so check the bonus rules before betting on virtuals.
