Hot Hot Fruit slot review: Habanero's very high volatility fruit game

Hot Hot Fruit is a Habanero slot released in January 2019, played on 5 reels, 3 rows and 15 lines, and one of the most searched slots in South Africa. It looks like a classic fruit machine, but the Hot Hot feature can turn symbols into double or triple versions at random, and the maximum win is 5,087x your stake. Volatility is very high, and the RTP depends on which version the bookmaker runs: Habanero lists versions from 86% up to 98%.

The Hot Hot feature

On any spin, symbols can land as double or triple stacks of themselves. A triple seven counts as three sevens on one reel position, so a line of triples can add up to 15 sevens in a row. That is where the game's big base-game wins come from, and why it can go quiet for long stretches between them.

Free games and locking wins

Three or more wild symbols trigger the free games, awarding 6 or 12 spins. During free games, winning symbols lock in place while the other positions spin again, with up to 14 symbols held. The locking mechanic is what turns a decent start into a large win, but most free game rounds end long before the reels fill.

Hot Hot Fruit RTP: why the version matters

Habanero publishes several RTP settings for this game: 86%, 92%, 94%, 97% and 98%. The bookmaker picks one. The difference is large: over the long run, a 98% version returns more of the money staked than an 86% version does, though no single session follows the long-run figure. Before you play, open the game's information or help screen, which shows the RTP of the version in front of you. If a lobby does not show it, assume nothing.

Hot Hot Fruit jackpot and tournaments

Hot Hot Fruit supports Habanero's network features: Jackpot Race, UP Tournaments and WinReplay. Whether these are switched on depends on the bookmaker. The "Hot Hot Fruit jackpot" people search for usually refers to these add-ons or to the game's top line win, not to a progressive jackpot built into the slot. For slots that do carry progressive jackpots, see jackpot slots.

Hot Hot Fruit demo and free play

The Hot Hot Fruit demo is one of the most searched terms for this game. There is no demo on this site. Habanero shows its games in demo form on its own website, and some licensed bookmakers let you open a game in demo mode from the lobby. Demo play uses play credits, cannot pay out and does not predict real-money results.

Hot Hot Fruit in South Africa: Betway, LottoStar and others

Readers often search for Hot Hot Fruit at Betway, at LottoStar or in the Hollywoodbets app. Whether a specific bookmaker carries the game is shown in that bookmaker's own lobby, which changes often. Among licensed bookmakers whose published game lists name Habanero as a provider are Betshezi, LottoStar and YesPlay. Our Habanero slots page lists more games from the studio.

The legal status of casino-style games at bookmakers is disputed and depends on the province: Gauteng bookmakers are barred by a 2025 court ruling, while the Western Cape board says its licensees are not affected.

Is there a Hot Hot Fruit strategy?

No strategy changes the result of a spin. With very high volatility, the useful decision is how much you are prepared to lose in a session before stopping. Slots are for adults aged 18 and over; see responsible gambling for help with limits.
