LottoStar registration and verification: sign up, FICA and deregistering
How LottoStar sign-up and FICA verification fit together, why documents are needed before a withdrawal, and how to step away from the account.
LottoStar verification is the FICA check that confirms who you are, and LottoStar's FAQ ties it to withdrawals: you need verified documents before you can take money out, and you may be asked to resubmit them. LottoStar registration itself is a short online form. LottoStar (Pty) Ltd is licensed and regulated by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator under licence number 9-2-1-09467, which is also listed on the National Gambling Board register.
LottoStar sign up: what the form asks
The form is completed online. As at any licensed South African bookmaker, expect to give:
- your full name exactly as on your ID;
- your South African ID number, or passport number if you are not a citizen;
- a mobile number and email address;
- a password for the account.
LottoStar states that no persons under the age of 18 are permitted to bet. Your details must match your documents, because the account is checked against them later.
LottoStar verification: which documents and when
LottoStar's FAQ deals with two questions directly: what documents you need to withdraw, and why you might need to resubmit documents for FICA. In practice that means verification can wait until your first withdrawal, but doing it early saves time when you want your money. Licensed bookmakers usually ask for:
| Document | What to watch |
|---|---|
| ID book, Smart ID card (both sides) or passport | All corners visible, no glare, not expired |
| Proof of address | In your name and recent, often no older than three months |
| Proof of bank account | Same name as the betting account; withdrawals go only to the holder |
LottoStar's own current list is in its FAQ and may differ in detail.
Why LottoStar asks you to resubmit FICA documents
A resubmission request is common and usually has a simple cause. Typical reasons at licensed operators are an expired document, a proof of address that has become too old, a blurry upload, or a change of bank account. Under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, bookmakers must keep customer information current, so a request can also come after a period of time. Send fresh, sharp copies and check with support if you are unsure which document is needed.
Deposits after you register
LottoStar publishes a long list of payment options, including EFT, card, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, SiD Secure EFT, SnapScan, PayFast and its own LottoStar Voucher. Standard Bank, FNB, ABSA and Nedbank list LottoStar as a public recipient for bank transfers. The full set is in our LottoStar review.

If you want to stop using the account, LottoStar's responsible betting section lists self-exclusion, a cooling-off period and a self-assessment quiz. A cooling-off period is a short, fixed break; self-exclusion is longer and is the right choice if betting has become a problem. Its helpline is listed as available 24/7, alongside a contact form and email. Closing an account does not cancel a self-exclusion, and you should not open a new account elsewhere to get around one.
A note on lottery betting
LottoStar is known for bets on lottery draws. Betting on the outcome of a lottery is restricted by section 57 of the Lotteries Act, and in 2021 a High Court interdicted LottoStar from offering such bets; LottoStar said it would appeal. Our lucky numbers section explains the draws without recommending bets. Gambling is for adults aged 18 and over, and our responsible gambling page lists confidential help.
