A bet on the outcome of a lottery is not the same as buying a lottery ticket. The Lotteries Act, section 57(2)(g), makes it an offence to offer betting on any outcome of any lottery unless another law authorises it, and in 2021 the Mbombela High Court stopped LottoStar from taking bets on lottery outcomes on that basis.
